Montreal exchanges Kowalchuk to Washington
According to the official NHL website Montreal Canadiens, the Canadian club traded Russian attacker Ilya Kowalchuk to the Washington Capitals. In return for a 36-year-old attacker, Washington gave a third-round pick to the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. Kovalchuk started this season with the Kings, but due to unsatisfactory results and a major contract that operated as a ballast, by Christmas the player was traded to Montreal. This season the Russian took part in 39 games and scored 22 (9 13) points. In his NHL career, Kovalchuk scored 872 (442,430) points in 919 games and is one of the best Russian bombers in NHL history.
