Rescue operation in Polish mine failed - miner died


The rescue operation at the Bobrek mine in Bytom, Poland, which lasted more than ten hours, was not successful. The 41-year-old miner, who fell asleep when he crashed in the mine on March 16, was already dead when the rescue team managed to get through to him. By noon, three miners had been filled with snow as a result of the collapse of a fragment of the passage's attachment. Two managed to be taken out, the operation to rescue the third lasted several hours. Unfortunately, he did not survive, quotes the message of the Ministry of State Assets Polish Radio. The accident occurred on Monday, March 16, at a depth of 840 meters. Three miners were littered with rock as a result of a collapse in the attachment of the passage floors. Two managed to evacuate quite quickly, they suffered minor injuries. By the third miner, the rescue team failed to get close, although there was voice contact with him. When he managed to get out of the rocks and the wreckage of the structures, he was already dead. The resuscitation attempt did not produce results. The deceased was married, and his daughter was orphaned. Polish Minister of State Assets Yacek Sasin offered condolences to the relatives of the deceased. It is the fourth to die in 2020 in the Polish mining industry and the second in coal mines. Earlier, on February 4, a 29-year-old miner was killed at a mine in Lendzin while operating a 650 m conveyor belt underground. In just the first two months of 2020, there were 317 different accidents in the Polish mining industry, including 267 in coal mines. In the past 2019, 23 people have died in Poland's mining industry, 16 of them in coal mines. There were 2,326 accidents, including 10 severe ones.
