Luxembourg Foreign Minister on events in Belarus: State terrorism
What is currently happening in Belarus is state terrorism. This opinion was expressed on August 14 by Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn on the air of the Deutschlandfunk radio station. I think that what is happening in this country (Belarus) is state terrorism, he said. Asselborn also pointed out that at present the European Union can respond to this with a ban on entry and freezing the assets of those responsible for the use of force against protesters, and noted that it is important not to affect civil society. We will discuss this, but watching and doing nothing like that will not work, said the Luxembourg Foreign Minister. At the same time, he clarified that in order to make such a decision, all 27 countries that are members of the EU need approval. Note, as the news agency reported, earlier the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union should take restrictive measures against those who violate democratic values in Belarus.
