Deputy Defense Ministers of Russia and Vietnam discuss military cooperation

Colonel General Alexander Fomin, Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, held talks with the Deputy Minister of National Defense of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV) Colonel General Nguyen Chi Win in a video conference on July 3. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Senior military officials discussed cooperation within the SMOA plus format (a meeting of ASEAN defense ministers with dialogue partners), cooperation in countering the spread of a new coronavirus infection, as well as the current state and prospects of bilateral military contacts between the two countries. The parties confirmed the focus of the states on the development of traditional mutually beneficial relations and the readiness to use the developed potential to deepen military and military-technical cooperation in the spirit of comprehensive strategic partnership. According to the news agency, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV) Nguyen Chi Vinh on January 20 met with the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov. The meeting discussed Russia's active participation in the events of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which will be chaired by Vietnam in 2020.
